The Polk County Road Department is dedicated to the maintenance and repair of roads in the county and has a further commitment to the safety and wellbeing of its residence who travel these roads by identifying and taking action on area roads that are problematic and by assessing weather conditions, clearing roadways and taking the appropriate actions to keep the county road system safe for travelers.
This is done under the authority of the Polk County Road Superintendent Harold Hood who has general control over the location, relocation, construction, reconstruction, repair, and maintenance of the county road system, including bridges, except roads and bridges under the supervision of the State Department of Transportation.
In the recent years the cost of paving and road construction has skyrocketed which has taken a major toll on the number of roads that the road department has money to pave, repair and construct. One reason for this is the fact that the road department does not receive any funding from the County of Polk, instead all the funding to the road department comes from the Tennessee Gas Tax Fund allotted back to the county and what ever grants that the county road department is eligible to apply for from the state and federal government, of which we work hard to receive. For these reasons our new paving and maintenance schedule is behind, so we are striving to work on our worst roads as much as possible.
We are Proud and honored to serve the People of Polk County
